The university recognizes the importance of fundamental research towards achieving excellence in research and development. Thus, an Advanced Fundamental Research Cluster is established to generate further new discovery and knowledge. The Advance Fundamental Research (AFR) Cluster of University of Malaya was formed in early 2009. Currently, AFR comprises of 5 university research centre , 5 cluster research centre and 24 of research groups.
